Research Interests  HBV and HCV infections and their severe complications with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma are ones of major issues in medicine. Hosts and viruses play distinctly important roles on mechanism of viral invasion, disease progression, and treatment response. Our laboratory focuses on the interaction of immunologic and genetic characteristics between host and viral genomes, via integrating clinical and basic researches. We are investigating the mechanism of response to combination treatment of interferon alpha and ribavirin in chronic hepatitis C patients, especially, on up-regulation of HLA-I related factors. In addition to designing effective methods of HBV genotype, we are investigating the occurence of HBV mutants during natural course and antiviral treatment among chronic hepatitis B patients.
